Spring Clearing
“This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good.
What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.
When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever. In its place is something you have left behind. Let it be something good.”

Spring is coming. It will arrive next week. It will show up on time and without delay. There is nothing we have to do to prepare for its arrival. It has no expectations from us. It has no travel restrictions or extraordinary measures to contend with.
Our seasons begin and end exactly as they are designed. They consistently and without fail follow one another in a precise pattern. It is something we subconsciously trust and believe in. We don’t have to give it any energy. We don’t have to try and make it happen. We don’t have to manifest it or contribute to its onset.
We just know it to be true. It just is.
But we tend to forget that life is unpredictable. There are numerous bumps and detours on our paths. There are unforeseen plot twists along our journeys. They come, we adjust, we acclimate, and then…. we forget. Until they happen again.
Sometimes circumstances are just simply out of our control and there isn’t a thing we can do about them. Because we are accustomed to routines and consistency, we feel anxious, uneasy, and distracted when our lives get knocked off course. During these times, it’s common to feel unbalanced.
We want and need to feel in control of our lives. We have a longing for order. We have an intense desire for normalcy. It is important that during these times we focus on the things we can manage, take responsibility for, and ultimately take charge of. It is critical to stay focused on what we can do to make the best of our situations while continuing to be our best selves.
Perhaps the Universe is telling us to slow down, regroup, take a breath. Maybe it is whispering that we should be more focused on the basics instead of always reaching for the extras. We weren’t made to be connected and plugged in to everything all the time. We weren’t made to be boxed in. We need space. Space to exercise and run and play. Space to just not have to think about everything all the time. We need space and time to reflect. To ponder. To dream.
We are going, going, going all the time. But where is it, exactly, we are trying to go?
I believe in the healing powers of simplicity.
A simple evening spent with our children playing games and catching up. Time spent reminiscing over a cup of coffee with a friend. A rainy afternoon baking cookies and watching movies. A saunter in the woods. A puzzle. A nap. A cup of tea.
So while we are in the midst of a season of change, I encourage you to take stock and embrace what’s important to you. With the world virtually coming to a halt, we have been given an amazing gift of time. Time that we normally wouldn’t have. It’s time to focus on the positive and take charge of the things we can. It’s time to clear some space and simplify.
“Our life is frittered away by detail…
Simplify. Simplify. Simplify.
Simplicity of life and elevation of purpose.”
~ Henry David Thoreau
Time to bring positive energy back into our spaces.
Time to call our family or help a neighbor.
Time to daydream or take a nap.
Time to clean out that closet.
Time to recenter and reset.
Time to read that book.
Time to take a chance.
Time to take a walk.
Time to prioritize.
Time to be kind.
Time to just be.
Take this time to do some spring clearing. Clear out the mental cobwebs. When you take a pause and create space, both physically and emotionally, remarkable things can happen.
For a few moments, I invite you to look around your home. If you aren’t at home, take a break and close your eyes and imagine it.
What do you see? How would you describe your space? How does it make you feel?
Is it calm? Is it stressful? Do you have too much? Does it reflect who you want to be? Does it support you in being your best self?
It’s time to be in harmony with your environment. It’s time to create some space.
Clear out the old and make space for the new.
New ideas. New opportunities. New possibilities.
Create space for expansion and give yourself room to grow.
Create space to have more time for what matters.
Soon spring will come and claim its place by gently nudging winter to move on. It will gradually escort out the cold and darkness while inviting the light to shine warmer and brighter.
Take the time to nurture your soul and plant your seeds of hope.
Now is the perfect time to trust in the power of new beginnings.
